I understand playing the snow races and other things, but is there anything else you can do? Like buy items and stuff or that is all you can do?

Astro Barrier
Ballistic Biscuit
Bean Counters
Cart Surfer
Ice Fishing
Puffle Roundup
Jet Pack Adventure
Thin Ice
Pizzatron 3000
Catchin' Waves

If you are a non-member, you can buy some items. Like a new color or puffle!
If you are a member, you can buy everything that is there is. If you have the coins though.

Oh cool! Never knew you could own a puffle on a non-member.

Non-members can purchase up to 2 puffles, red or blue.
Non-members can buy backgrounds.
Non-members can obtain stuff via events.
Non-members can play the games that princepenqui mentioned.

Be appreciative of what you have. At least Non-Members get to play!

It's still fun being a non member, but I'd defenitely become a member, if you think you'll play Club Penguin enough. It defenitely pays off!

Suprisingly I think everyone has covered the basics.

Note: I'm a bit old to be playing a game like Club Penguin, so expect the views expressed in this post to be slightly negative.
As a non-subscriber, you can...
Waddle.
Throw snowballs at people, which seems cool at first, but then gets kind of lame when you realize that nothing happens no matter where you throw it. And even if something does happen, it's over within one or two seconds.
Sit down. I think. If you're lucky.
Buy backgrounds that serve no practical purpose, and can only been seen when someone clicks on you, but nobody WILL click on your because you're just some n00b with a penguin that's not wearing any clothes.
Waddle.
Play cute little flash games that get old after the first couple of levels. Trust me on this. Unless you somehow get hypnotized by the cuteness of your squidgey little penguin, you'll dread having to keep playing these games for coins.
Realize afterwards that you've been spending your precious time slaving away getting coins you can't really do anything with. I mean, you can't buy any clothes at all, which just doesn't seem right.
Waddle.
Get a furry little squidger that does nothing but eat, sleep, go through little animations that are only cute the first few times, and, after a while, stink. All in all, they just end up being a chore after you've seen the animations the first couple of times. Plus, you can't even buy it any furniture. How horrible is that? How is your little squmper suppose to get exercise? How can it loose all that extra warmth it gained from being fed nothing but cookies?
Find secret pins whenever they come out, which is... what? How often? And don't go thinking these are like VMK pins. No sir. You can't even trade them to get better stuff. In fact, you can't trade at all.
You can talk to people but when you talk to them it has to be like this for some reason I don't know why but its just like that I guess its so you cant make any little faces or anything like that
Waddle.
Get down with your well-insulated self and boogie. Uh-huh. That's right. You can dance. Possibly the best part about the whole game.
Pay real money, so you can waddle in style.

They help new comers and guide them through the game saying some chat about the place they're in. It's already chat typed for you.

the pet store is located in the plaza which is right of the town, and as a non-subscriber you may buy a blue puffle or a red puffle from rockhopper island.
as a non-subscriber you may buy 2, but as a subscriber you may buy 12.

Very well put, Garfy (Haha, I made up a new name! :D)
I don't like the game very much either, I only play to help out other new players. Too bad I'm too young to be an agent, that would be fun to do the missions.

I think Garfieldo sets some things very well in his post about the game, but the more I play is the more I have come to enjoy. Although I know my coins mean nothing, I've found the wide variety of mini games to non subscribes to be absolutely awesome. They are great time killers, and you can meet a few nice people here and there.
Club Penguin also allows me to escape the 3D VMK atmosphere in a while to go to the 2D cartoon like Club Penguin, which I have come to like. VMK wins in most departments, but Club Penguin is no bad game. Club Penguin Fan Site also seems to have some cool things going on in the game, so I like that also.
All in all, I've come to accept and like Club Penguin. It's certainly not a great game, but it's a good game.

My penguin is still pretty new, so I can't become a Secret Agent or a Tour Guide yet. (Yes, I am a paid member)
